Scarlet Feather is a novel based around the lives of the two main characters, called Catty Scarlet and Tom Feather, who open a catering company together. However it causes both many joys and many heartbreaks along the way. As the business goes through its ups and downs the relationship between them changes as well as the relationships with the people around them. Especially Cathy’s husband, Neil, who’s job is a lawyer and dreams of saving the world with the cases he wins, and the jobs he completes, and Neil’s wife, Marcella, who would do just about anything to be a model.
I have many positive thoughts and feelings about the story and the way it was told. My favourite character was Catty because she was shown to be a very versatile person and so very strong, which I feel was desperately needed in this novel and so her, as a character, matched well with the storyline of the novel.. Next, I feel that the characters were portrayed well and as a result meant the characters felt real. The novel was very unique in a way which meant that some events were unexpected and so it meant the story left you guessing sometimes, which I feel shows another element of a good book.
My favourite part of the book was the ending because it linked up all the loose ends, and overall was just a good ending, and like the whole book, the ending makes you laugh and cry at the same time, as well as gripping you and keeping you turning the pages, and therefore I don’t think there was anything not to like about the book.
The type of reader I’d recommend this book to is teens/adults and I would give this book a 9 out of 10 rating. It is a thought provoking and interesting read. I would definitely read more books by this author.
